Anyone here play card games?

Postby Monster on Thu Jul 24, 2003 7:32 pm

I started designing a new card game (not sure if it would be a CCG or not) that is all about pit fighters going at it in an arena. You would draw a random Pit Fighter from the deck, then equip him with weapons and armor (which are also cards), abilities, magic items, etc. There would also be action cards (such as Dodge or Flip) and spell cards. Each Pit Fighter would have keywords such as Dragon or Archer that would dictate which cards they can use. I want to design a self-contained system that does not require dice or life counters. For instance, perhaps whenever your Pit Fighter takes damage, you discard cards from your deck, and when you run out of cards, you lose.

Anyone interested in helping me create/design/playtest?

Never heard of Burn Rate (I just looked it up though). I'm talking more along the lines of Magic: The Gathering, Lord of the Rings, even non-collectible card games like Knights of the Dinner Table: Hack! or Munchkin.

I played OverPower and Pokemon like 5 years ago, does that count?

Currently I play crazy 8's. :/

I would play more card games. But with the friends I play stuff like that with, it'd have to be...

a) simple rules that dont take forever to explain and understand (Magic is too complex)

b) deep enough that strategy plays an important part of gameplay, and isn't just random luck of the draw

c) able to be played with more than 2 people

d) of course FUN :)

Well then help me design this game. My current ideas meet all your requirements :).

But wait, don't you play D&D? Those are fairly complex rules.

Anyway, are you interested? I'll send you the stuff I have typed up already if you are.

I'm not that good at game design, but if you just want someone to bounce ideas off of, then sure. Maybe inspiration will strike me.

Jeez, I'd be scared to think of the weapon possibilities for that card O_o

On a similar note, be sure to include ninja monster, ninjas are a must. Dragons too.

Oh and one legged gimps. +2 speed/movement or something (they use wheel chairs sometimes dont they?
