So I bought a Dell XPS 400 system, which is their gaming line. I should be getting it today. Specs:

Pentium D (Dual-Core) 830 (3GHZ)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM AT 533MHZ-2X512MB
19" LCD (It was included)
256MB NVIDIA GEFORCE 7800 GTX (PCI-E) - Awwww yeahhhh
80GB SERIAL ATA,7200 RPM - I know it's small, didn't want to pay more
SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic

What do you think? I know the graphics card kicks major ass. I can't wait to tear into games at full detail and AA with this new system.

Nice systems.. 2 gigs of ram is SOOO much better than one though.

It was only an extra $135 over here, well worth it.

Well, the first game I installed was FEAR. I'm running it at 1600x1200 with details maxed, max AA, etc. It must run at 60 FPS at least. I didn't think to enable the FPS display in the game (if there is one) but it runs super smooth. I just got done installing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, which I gave up on before because it was basically unplayable on my old PC. I'll be interested to see how that pathetic Source engine skipping does on my new machine, though it was much worse in Vampire than Half Life 2. I can't wait for the next Elder Scrolls!

I got Windows XP Media Center Edition, and it turns out that Media Center is a joke. It's already crashed multiple times, usually when I try to use it to play a CD. I added some folders to the images section and it looks like you can't remove a folder from it after that unless you delete it from the drive (Picasa is free and is much more robust). I'm extremely disappointed with Media Center, but at least XP is pretty close to Pro, so it's not like I got gypped.

The Dell case is the best case I've ever worked with. It looks like everything is screwless. The hard drives go into a tray and the cards don't need screws because there's a hatch that locks them in. Really cool. They even have handles built into the IDE cables.

My 19" LCD was DOA. They already have to ship me another one. Pathetic.
