360

I'm late to the party but I just got my Xbox 360 last week. I won it in a charity raffle for $50, and it took them this long to get it to me. Ah well, can't beat the price!

I just have to say that Geometry Wars is a pretty kickass game. For about $5 you get the game off Live Arcade. It's like a classic asteroids type shooter but hyped up on steroids. Definitely worth $5.

Otherwise, I know there's Battlefield 2 and Oblivion and GRAW, but is that it in the way of great 360 games? Nothing else really excites me yet.

I don't have much to add to this topic, but, I lvoe how you got a 360 and the game you played first was a 5$ arcade shooter. I love you wynn.

The first games I played on the 360 weren't even paid games, they were just demos! One of which was Geometry Wars, of course. I still haven't even bought that. There are a ton of demos on Xbox Live now, so I've played quite a few of them.

The first (and only) game I've bought so far is Oblivion. Most games aren't worth more than a rental, but that's true for every system.

Oh and Geometry Wars is more like a Robotron 2084 clone, the main difference being that you don't have to rescue anything. The controls are also basically identical.

Yeah it's pretty cool how you can download so many demos and play them. I tried that one FPS demo you mentioned, Monster. Nice snowy level and lots of bug killing. If you find any other good ones, let me know.

The new Hitman demo was pretty cool. Definitely need to rent that one soon. Fight Night looks amazing and is worth the download for visuals alone, but it's pretty fun to play too once you get the controls down. The demo is even multiplayer (not Live as far as I know)... I played it with a friend and it was much more fun (and challenging) than playing the PC. I might even consider buying that one if there is a create-a-boxer mode.

Were you ever able to beat either of the Lost Planet levels? I hope the real game has continues, because it's just brutal.

I played the first level but did not finish it. I didn't know there was a timer, so I spent too much time exploring and playing in the snow.

My friend has Fight Night and he says it rocks, even though he doesn't like boxing games.

It's not really a timer, it's more like health that you lose gradually, since it goes down when you get hit. I don't think you can even be killed until it runs out. It seems to be recharged every time you activate one of those antenna things, and whenever you pick up the orange things that drop when an enemy is killed.

I like the second level better. It's much shorter but with harder (human) enemies and lots of mechs. You have to take on like 4 mechs at once at the end and one of them is a boss. The first mech you see can be hijacked by throwing a grenade and killing the driver.

I'm closing in on scoring 2 million points in Geometry Wars. I hit 1.9 mill over the weekend. Out of probably around 200,000 uploaded scores, I'm in the top 3500 for now. Maybe Hado could beat me... maybe. But the rest of you are hopeless.

The highest score on the leaderboard is over 100 million. That's just crazy batshit insane. For real.

How long does it take you to reach 2 million?

Games are fairly short, really. It ramps up pretty quickly until it's an adrenaline-pumping frenzy of twitchy goodness. It might be 15 minutes to finish with 2 million points. I can only assume the secret to tens of millions of points is by continuing to survive and racking up a big multiplier. In theory you could play indefinitely, but there's enough frustrating randomness that it's not very likely.

Passed 2 million for the second time, finally. The first time I scored 2.4 million, but I was somehow signed out of Xbox Live so my score didn't get sent to the servers. This time I made it to 2.3 million.

Oh yeah, I love it when I get randomly signed out of Xbox Live. I would have been livid if that happened to me after a 2.4 million run.

I get signed out sometimes, but I attribute it to using wireless that isn't on the list of "supported" wireless routers.
