I don't have the game yet. Do the servers check, um... CD keys, by chance? If not, I can get it today.

They sure do. Actually, you can play the full singleplayer game without a cd-key, but the multiplayer has to be activated with it.

Apparently you can play with an illegitimate key when the authentication servers are down.

This shit is a nightmare. I'm reminded again one of the reasons I rarely buy games after buying this shit. Not only does it tak 8 GB on the drive, then it REQUIRES Steam to play, and Steam copies all the files over to its directory so it takes DOUBLE the space!!!! WTF is this shit? I don't even have enough hard drive space to play because STEAM WONT FUCKING LET ME!!!! Fuck Steam, and fuck Ubi. I'll never buy another Steam game again.

While I don't support steam or stupid things that cause double hard drive consumption...

With the insanely cheap prices these days for 320gb of HDD space it worries me that you dont have room for 16gigs...

So you bought the game Monster? You probably want to take advantage of any spare time you have left while you still have it, so delete some mp3's or something and come play DM.

So I turn on my PC this morning and it's down to 80 MB. At some point Steam decided to expand to over 11 GB even though I paused the "downloading" of a game I own (DM single player) on Steam.

I still have 80 GB left on my other drive but I never wanted to install anything on that drive this time. I want to use it excusively for file storage. And I sure as hell don't want Steam on there.
