Xbox 360: Halo 3

Halo 3 public beta starts today, for anyone with Crackdown or other entries into the program. Definitely worth checking out if you can get it, since the beta is FREE. They added some great new physics, some interesting weapon changes, new and modified maps, new team game types, and so on and so forth.

Release date was just announced as September 25th.

Speaking of free downloads, grab Aegis Wing. It's a full XBLA title for free, supposedly written by 4 interns last summer.

Rumors are popping up on the internet that Halo 3 will have 4-person online coop. That's huge!

Nice. I would have liked to be in the beta but I didn't want to have to buy my way into it (via Crackdown).

Personally, I thought Crackdown was a great game. I would recommend it even without the Halo tie-in. I purchased the DLC for it which added a few interesting things, but overall just made the game easier.

The H3 beta was only multiplayer on only a few maps. Even so, it was a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the campaign though. I played H1 through multiple times, but I wasn't as excited by H2. I have high hopes for this one.

I just read about all the new stuff in Halo 3 in the new EGM. Customizable models, new vehicles (including a new giant mobile base in one map), new weapons and items, incredibly customizable game modes, and even customizable maps (including a MULTIPLAYER map customization mode)! Halo 3's gonna kick ass.

Yeah all that stuff is amazing for a console game. There are some pretty nifty new vehicles, including a big motorcycle-like thing that can shoot, the huge APC that you mentioned, and a helicopter-like thing with machine gun and missiles. It should be a blast. The campaign is pretty nice too. They added optional scoring for coop games where you earn points for kills and finishing quickly and such.

I may or may not have played with this stuff in the Halo 3 Epsilon.

No, but I'll be getting it Tuesday. I haven't preordered, but I figure since even 7-11 is selling it I'll be able to find a copy pretty easy.

If it does, it will probably be an inferior port that's only for Vista and will come out long after everyone else has stopped playing the 360 version.
