Talk about things like elves and gnomes. (It's cooler than it sounds.)

Where's Shadowfang Keep? (A discussion of badass weapons)

Check out this beauty that drops there:

Night Reaver
Binds when equipped
Two-Hand Axe
52 - 78 Damage Speed 3.30
+ 1 - 5 Shadow Damage
(20.6 damage per second)
Durability 80 / 80
Requires Level 18
Chance on hit: Sends a shadowy bolt at the enemy causing 60 to 90 Shadow damage.
Sells for 30 Silver 66 Copper to vendors

It drops off of wailing guardsmen in Shadowfang Keep. Then again, the chance it will drop one is practically nil (.2%): http://thottbot.com/?n=10372

But here's the good news: the Taskmaster Axe that Sneed the goblin lumberjack drops (you know, the one Cronk yoinked) has a 27.3% chance to drop! http://thottbot.com/?n=4089

So I guess I'll try to get the VC quest soon as possible so we can go back in there. I have a little better than a one in four chance to get it. However, I have dual wield now so I'm going to start looking for attainable one handers with high DPS on Thottbot. With any luck I'll be able to get something better than that axe anyway.

Speaking of VanCleef, here's his drop list if you're interested: http://thottbot.com/?n=5991

Notice there's a 68% chance to get a letter that spawns another quest. Not sure if I believe that the letter only has a 68% chance to drop though; notice how the head has a 54% chance to drop (it would be 100% if you had the quest). I'm guessing this only means that half the people who kill VanCleef have the quest (or are smart enough to loot the head).

I've decided I'm going to take my rogue into dual wielding swords or maces (not sure which yet). It means I can't use backstab, but the normal combat damage will be higher, and other abilities will do more damage because of the higher dmg weapons.

If you are taking swords, maybe I'll go maces, just so we dont compete for drops :)

I'd go for swords and axes, both 1 and 2 handed. I'm even willing to pick up daggers since I found that nice recipe for Syver last night (for a 16 DPS dagger I believe). However, I don't even think I can get maces at all (wouldn't really want to anyway).

You really willing to give up backstab? I can understand doing that if you find a weapon that's a lot better at the time, but from what I understand, as long as you have at least one dagger equipped you can still backstab. I think that's a good compromise. Besides, there are some really nice daggers out there (see above).

I'm still investigating what I want to do. That pattern you found sounds pretty nice, I could really go for two of those :)

In a group, backstab is great. Soloing, backstab can't be used very much anyway.

Speaking of soloing, good thing I was soloing last night. That's when I found those plans AND a Bard's Tunic of whatever animal's name agility is called.

For a rogue...
Daggers are good for poisons because of their speed, and needed for backstab.
Maces are good if the rogue takes mace specialization talent, because you can get up to 6% chance to stun enemy per hit.
Swords are good for raw damage output for a straight up combat rogue.

There are pretty much uber weapons of every type, so I don't think it's terribly crucial to choose based on that.
