Invalid_session

Postby Wynn on Thu May 29, 2003 12:38 pm

Why am I getting so many errors trying to do anything on this damn board? This sucks. "Invalid_session" pops up for every other thing I want to do, including
1. Register
2. Edit profile
3. Reply to a post
4. Post a new message

I also get permission errors trying to upload an avatar.

Hmmm, I get a different error when uploading an avatar. But I'm guessing that's because of an access error.

Right now it's 80x80.

I personally haven't had any errors yet. Are you still getting them Wynn? If you are, give me the exact error.

No, I closed my browser completely and restarted and then I didn't get the Invalid_Session error.

I got the same error as Stix when I tried to upload an avatar image, but it works now.

FUCK THIS IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN

I get Invalid_Session a lot now (from work at least.. I'll try again from home). Seacrh on google for phpbb invalid_session and you can see this is a very common issue.

I seem to have found a workaround that I need to explicitly refresh before posting a message. Sonofabitch.

What I found on another site (you probably saw this already):

Basically this feature protects against hacker attacks by giving every active user a Session ID, part of which is derived from your current IP address. If your Internet account uses dynamic IP addresses and a timeout so that your machine goes offline and then online again while you are composing posts your IP address will change and your Session ID will become invalid. phpBB will then assume that you're a hacker and not allow you to post.

Users of AOL worldwide and T-Online in Germany will be particularly strongly affected by this problem, as will all other users with providers who change the entire IP address every time you log on.

If you're interested in the technical details see this message from the phpBB staff:

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=69493

Workaround:

If you experience this problem while trying to post a message or reply do this:

1:
Immediately click on BACK in your browser. This will display your editing screen with the text you just entered.
2:
Copy all the text you wrote to the clipboard, then return to the forum and select New Message or Reply as appropriate for what you were trying to do.
3:
Paste the text you just copied into the editing window and immediately click on SUBMIT, while your current session is still valid.

This is really lame. I'll see if there's some way to prevent that. I'm not afraid of hackers taking my board on.

You shouldn't get the errors any more, Wynn. Let me know if you do.

Yeah saw that.. but hitting back and submitting quickly didn't help in my case. Reload did though.

I'll let you know if it happens again. I suspect it is because I'm behind a firewall at work.

if it is a standard 6.0 install check because the default for 6.0 is not to allow session cookies way to make sure go to intenet options - > Privacy -> Advanced put a check in override say allow allow and put a check mark in session cookies that is for 6.0 only
